The year 2020, the year the world was supposed to change, the year flying cars should have been a common sight, the year when the world should have been a far better place to live. For decades and decades now, philosophers have been romanticizing this year and boy did this year surprise us! 2020, is now a year we would remember for all the wrong reasons.

The Coronavirus Pandemic Of 2020

The Pandemic started with scientists, doctors, epidemiologists and virologists combating two major problems. The smaller, research and genetic mapping of the SARS-CoV-2 virion, to bring out the vaccine as soon as possible, and secondly, the larger, dealing with people promoting conspiracy theories and the so called “alternate truth.”

The Lack Of Education

If someone asks me, about what my favourite oxymorons are, I’d say, ‘pseudoscience’ and ‘alternate truth.’ Science happens to be science because it is based on evidence, algorithms, studies, statistics and so many more things. Even the theories in science have to be backed by proof gathered over a large series of experiments. Unfortunately though, people seem to know way too little in the age of science and technological advancements. They choose to believe stuff which is put out by unqualified people over social media, rather than scientists who have studied their subjects for years and years. The papers published are not merely one person’s job, they are reviewed by larger groups of really specialised people, so the margin of error, decreases to almost null.

Take a zoologist for example, a zoologist would never share his opinion about things related to botany. An epidemiologist would never interfere with geology and a doctor would never tell others about how to construct a building. The simple fact is, a scientist is not a jack of all trades, and they shouldn’t be one too! On the other side of this spectrum, we find people (good lord so many of them) who seemingly know everything about, well, everything! You can’t watch two videos on YouTube, have no educational background pertaining to the subject, and then start expressing your own opinions and feelings about it and consequentially distorting the truth, the science behind it.

Science Vs Feelings

Spoiler alert! SCIENCE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL. I can never emphasize this enough. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing a mask, well guess what? Nobody cares! Sorry if you find me rude here, but over a million people have succumbed to this, one very prominent, deadly disease. How much does it even take to wear a simple mask, maybe just to protect yourself, if not others around you?

This everlasting circus of climate change is the biggest evidence of anthropogenic foolery. Like epidemiologists have been warning everyone about the spread of coronavirus infection to large sums of people, the climate change scientists, environmentalists, zoologists and botanists amongst so many others have time and again reminded us about the adverse impacts of climate change. Sadly though, neither the former, nor the latter have ever been taken seriously. We have now done irreparable damage to the only planet known to man, to harbor life.

Conclusion (if we could ever put a period on stupidity as well)

STOP. BELIEVING. IN. PSEUDOSCIENCE. There’s no alternate truth, stop putting your faith into people who know nothing about what they are talking about. Scientists are people who have made the world what it is today. The very device you’re reading this on, is a product of so many scientific marvels put together. A simple bottle cap, was invented, to make things easier for us. “Necessity is the mother of all inventions.” It was, it is and always will be. Science prevails irrespective of us believing in it or not. Science has time and again proved itself right, and it always will. Support your scientists, be it the (real) doctors who keep you healthy or the engineers who build stuff to make your life easier. Be it a botanist, a biochemist or a person from a pharmaceutical or a biotechnological background. They deserve respect, belief and so much more. Fund them properly, so they can bring about more awesome science, to make this world, a better place to live.
